Caso Clínico: De La Teoría A La Práctica – Diagnóstico

Clinical Case: From Theory to Practice – Diagnosis

A Transdisciplinary Approach to Oral Function

Going from theory to practice is sometimes not so easy to achieve, and pediatric dentistry patients are no exception.

Knowing how other professionals have approached situations that may arise in a consultation is very useful, as it clarifies the outlook somewhat and, even better, highlights what to expect in terms of oral outcomes and the patient's quality of life.

This Patient Presented For

  • Sleep bruxism
  • Class III due to maxillary hypoplasia and posterior rotation of the mandible, with cervical spine lordosis.
  • Oropharynx and nasopharynx with 60% obstruction, and inadequate cervical posture was also altering pharyngeal dimensions.
  • Hard palate with increased depth.

A case that truly encompasses many aspects to consider within the treatment, and in which we are clearly facing a case of bruxism and altered orofacial function.

Aspects To Normally Consider Would Be:

  • Palatal expansion? And from there arise questions like, what type of expander to use, for how long?
  • How do I manage hypoplasia and mandibular rotation? Protraction, chin cup, fixed appliances
  • Bruxism, how to identify its underlying cause
  • Airways, clearly requires referral to an ENT or allergist.

In the next two publications of this clinical case, From theory to practice in a transdisciplinary approach to orofacial function, the chosen treatment plan will be presented, and finally, the results and evaluation achieved in the patient.

At @doctoraclaudiarestreposerna, you can find daily tips on this and other topics that have strong scientific backing and the support of the Doctor's experience as one of the most recognized professionals worldwide as an expert in bruxism, orofacial function, and TMD in children.
