Introducing UP-LOCKER

Years of study and an open mind to break paradigms, but with evidence to support the changes, led to the creation of UP LOCKER.

This therapy is based on the concept of the oropharyngeal system, not only as a set of bones and muscles, but also as a complex of valves that must function synchronously.

With UP LOCKER you can restore nasal breathing, train swallowing, and achieve correct tongue positioning at rest to help with proper maxillary and facial development.

SHE IS SANDRA KAHN

Creator of the UP LOCKER

Dr. Sandra Khan is an orthodontist with over 25 years of clinical experience, a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco.

Her postgraduate training included studies in physical anthropology and craniofacial growth at the University of California, Berkeley.

She has been part of teams dedicated to craniofacial anomalies at the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University.

Professionally, Dr. Khan leads a practice focused on the prevention of pediatric sleep apnea and comprehensive treatments that link body and oral posture for the development of strong jaws, complete dental alignment, and healthy airways.

She is an international speaker, author of two books—Let’s Face It and GOPex – Good Oral Posture Exercises!—and translator of John Mew’s classic text The Cause and Cure of Malocclusion into Spanish

  • THE ONLY ONE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO CHECK IF THE TONGUE IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION

The Up-locker activator is used to maintain negative pressure with a feedback
system which, for the first time, allows the user to know if they are placing
    their tongue correctly.

  • THE ONLY ONE THAT ALSO HAS A BABY VERSION - up-locker pacifier

can be prescribed for every stage of development to promote breathing, even from birth.

The negative effects of sucking habits can be corrected with the Up-locker pacifier.

  • UNIQUE BASED ON THE BIOFUNCTIONAL MODEL AND WITH SUPPORTING SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

In the past, muscles were thought to be primarily responsible for function. In the BIOFUNCTIONAL model, the anatomy of the nose, mouth, and throat is organized and a distinction is made between units, seals or valves, and compartments.

COURSE SYLLABUS

Introduction to Breathing and the Fourth Space

To breathe, we only use three spaces: the nose, the mouth, and the throat. But did you know that we should consider a fourth space?

In this module, we will discuss the oral cavity, which is one of the three breathing spaces. It consists of two distinct spaces, which we call compartments, that perform very different tasks when breathing and also during other activities.

If we want to intelligently use the full potential of the upper respiratory tract to prevent infectious diseases, to supply oxygen to the lungs, to boost children's neurodevelopment, and for proper facial and jaw growth, we must be thoroughly informed about the important functions of the compartments.

To find these answers, we need to know the basic structure of the airway, that is, not of the three spaces or compartments, which function as locked rooms, but of four

What is and how does the Up-Locker work?

In 2003, it was observed for the first time that, thanks to forced swallowing, a regular change of position can be achieved, and that the distance between the tongue and the palate decreases significantly. Today, we call this tongue repositioning maneuver the Up-lock maneuver.

Based on this concept and the available scientific evidence, we will understand how the Up-Locker works to effectively assist in nasal breathing training, oral resting position, and nocturnal mouth closure assistance.

4 Appointments for Implementing Up-Locker Treatments

Learn in detail about the Up-Locker treatment protocol, which is structured in four appointments that allow the dentist or treating professional to guide their patients through the learning process and maintenance of the Up-lock maneuver, using Up-locker activators and their accessories.

1. Initial Appointment: Clinical examination and usage instructions. Motivational factors for long-term use

2. Technical Control: Measurement of Fränkel and/or Donders spaces and motivation for progress.

3. Results Control: New measurements, use of the improvement scale, and progress recording

4. Long-term Control: Continued measurements, evaluation of results, and instructions for long-term use.
